Waxed chains have many advantages over oiled chains:

Reduced wear and longer lifespan: Chain wax penetrates deep into the chain links and forms a protective layer that minimizes direct contact between metal components. This can significantly extend the lifespan of the entire drivetrain.

Cleaner drivetrain: Unlike oil, wax attracts less dirt, dust, and debris. The solid wax layer repels dirt particles, resulting in a cleaner drivetrain (and cleaner fingers) and reducing the need for frequent cleaning.

Higher efficiency: Waxed chains offer measurably higher efficiency due to reduced friction. High-quality waxes can save up to 6-8 watts compared to conventional chain oils.

More environmentally friendly: Wax is considered more eco-friendly than chain oil, as it causes less groundwater contamination.

Quieter ride: Thanks to its even coating, chain wax ensures a quieter ride.

However, there is one significant drawback:

The process requires effort, especially the initial cleaning of the drivetrain. Even a brand-new chain needs to be thoroughly degreased, which is labor-intensive and requires ultrasonic cleaning for optimal results.
